The Mission

What is CPSN?

CPSN, Climate Positive Student Network is a student-led opportunity for collaboration between middle and high schools in the Bay Area aimed to develop students’ voices, to deepen students’ knowledge of developments in climate change, and to empower students to take action. Members of CPSN announce the commitment of these schools to Climate Change education and acknowledge the crisis facing their students and the world.

How does CPSN work?

2021-2022 school year: During the months leading up to April 2022, CPSN students at each participating school will design an all-school program, which could range from a simple once-a-week presentation to a comprehensive four-week program that includes research, small group seminars, all school presentations, and action plans. Most of our schools have their own Climate Clubs or Action group. CPSN doesn’t duplicate these efforts, it magnifies these actions. We share our actions, articulate our intent and gain strength. By joining together, our united voices multiply our impact.

2022-2023 school year: This school year, we are focusing more on expanding and improving connections between schools to try to more closely achieve our goal of inter-school communication and support. One way we are doing this is by holding a beginning of year lunch to encourage new face-to-face connections. We are also working on expanding our network through our rising ninth graders at their new schools, and by contacting directors of other schools in the Bay Area. Additionally, we are shifting from a solo school action model to a multi-school action model, where each participating school will have an opportunity to take a big action that will be backed by other students at other schools. In practice, this will look like a march, or meeting led by one school’s students, and joined by other school’s students. This way we will have more action, over more time, with more impact.

What is the benefit of CPSN?

CPSN is driven by student voice and leadership, CPSN develops community through intra-school student communication and ongoing meetings between educators, CPSN shares resources to sites, documentaries, speakers, and projects, and makes a statement of collaborative intention. This collaboration will lead to actions defined and implemented by the students and schools to make a positive impact on the climate.
